Who is responsible
Marc B., sole trader, publisher of the Cléo application. Contact: contact@eyland.app.
What stays on your phone
Your progress — completed lessons, mastered chapters, experience points, day streak, lives and settings — is stored locally on your device. It is never transmitted, never backed up to a server of ours, and never readable by us. Deleting the app erases it permanently.
This also means we cannot restore your progress if you lose your phone. That's the accepted trade-off of collecting nothing.
What Cléo never asks for
- No account, no email address, no password.
- No microphone access — the app never listens, at any time.
- No access to contacts, photos, location or calendar.
Advertising in the app
The free version shows ads in two forms: one appears after some completed lessons, and you may additionally choose to watch a video to earn a life back. They are served by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited). To deliver them, AdMob may process device identifiers and technical data. The subscription removes all of them.
Before the first ad, a GDPR-compliant consent screen asks for your choice, through Google's consent management platform. You can refuse personalised advertising, in which case you will see non-personalised ads instead. Your choice can be changed at any time in the app's settings.
Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Purchases
Subscriptions run entirely through Apple and its in-app purchase system. We never see your payment method, your name or your address. All we know, on your device, is whether a subscription is active — checked locally from a transaction signed by Apple.
This website: audience measurement
Everything above concerns the application. This website uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) for one thing only: knowing how many people visit and which pages interest them. It is a separate processing operation from advertising in the app, with its own consent: accepting here commits nothing there, and vice versa.
- Nothing before your consent. No cookie is stored and no request is sent to Google until you click “Accept” in the banner. If you decline, Google's script is not even loaded.
- Cookies stored if you accept:
_gaand_ga_<identifier>, used to tell visitors apart. Lifetime: 13 months maximum. - What is measured: page views, referral source (search engine, link), device type, country, and clicks on the download link. Nothing you type, no advertising profiling: Google Analytics advertising features are turned off.
- Where the data lives: Google, with possible transfers to the United States covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Data is kept for 14 months, then deleted automatically.
- Changing your mind: the “Cookies” link at the bottom of every page reopens the banner at any time. Declining after accepting deletes the cookies already stored. Without any action from you, your choice is asked again after thirteen months.
Legal basis: your consent (article 6.1.a GDPR, and article 82 of the French Data Protection Act).
Children
Cléo is not specifically directed at children and is not listed in the App Store Kids Category. We do not knowingly collect any data relating to a child.
Your rights
The GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection. On the app side, since we hold no data about you, those rights are exercised directly on your device: uninstalling the app erases everything. For advertising data, contact Google or change your consent inside the app.
On the website side, if you accepted audience measurement, those same rights apply to the corresponding data, along with the right to withdraw your consent at any time (the “Cookies” link at the bottom of the page).
Questions: contact@eyland.app. You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Any change to this policy will be published on this page with a new update date.
